What we're building, and who it's for.
We're building Manifest to make cities smarter, faster, and stronger — block by block. If you're thinking about a call with us, read this first. It's the cheapest way for both of us to find out if we should talk.
What this is, in one breath
Manifest is a real-time local layer -- the place where a block's news, deals, and questions move at the speed the block actually lives. Smarter, because every answer is grounded in what neighbors and local journalists actually wrote. Faster, because it's happening now, not last week. Stronger, because the people who live there own the data and the publishers who serve them own the distribution. It doesn't exist yet. This is the moment it gets built, and we'd like to build it with the people who already love their cities.
The wound, named first
Right now one of a publisher's readers is typing a local question into an AI product. They're getting a confident, well-formatted answer. They're not opening the publisher's site. They don't need to. The AI learned what it knows partly from that publisher's archive -- their reporting, their reviews, their decades of coverage -- and it's now using that knowledge to make the publication optional in its own backyard.
That's not a trend. That's already happening.
A publication that spent forty years being the authoritative voice on its city is watching that authority become detached from the institution that built it. No traffic back. No revenue back. No credit back. The reader gets an answer. The publisher made the answer possible and becomes optional.
What Manifest is
Local data infrastructure. Not a social network. Not a chatbot. Not another ad platform.
Translate it into what a person actually experiences: a publisher's reader asks what's happening near them tonight and gets an answer grounded in that publication's own journalism plus what real neighbors posted today. That answer couldn't exist anywhere else. That's the product.
It hasn't existed before. That's the point.
The room nobody built
Every local community communicates in fragments. Group threads nobody checks. Newsletters that arrive after the moment has passed. Social posts the algorithm shows to a fraction of the people who asked to see them. There is no real-time layer built for local -- no place where the restaurant owner, the local journalist, the small business, and the engaged resident are all in the same room having a live conversation that matters.
Manifest is building that room. The opportunity isn't another social platform competing for national scale. It's the infrastructure underneath local commerce and local media -- the place where breaking news in a zip code actually breaks, where a business can reach people who are physically nearby right now, where a publisher's audience becomes a community rather than a subscriber count.
Real time changes everything. A newsletter tells you what happened. A real-time platform puts you in the middle of it as it happens. That's a fundamentally different product, and there is nothing like it built specifically for local.
In one line
Manifest is the vertically integrated answer to local search, where the resident owns the data, the publisher owns the distribution, the business pays a fair price, and the platform stays out of the way.
Local information is a large, fragmented, low-trust industry. The pieces sit in a dozen places that don't talk to each other and don't serve the people who supply the value. Vertical integration is the fix: the people who actually live somewhere create the ground truth, the publisher who already has the audience distributes it, the local business pays a price that makes sense, and the platform takes a share and stays out of the way.
The manifesto -- seven beliefs
These don't change based on audience. They are what we actually believe.
- One. Local data belongs to local people. The information about what's happening in your neighborhood should be created, owned, and accessed by the people who live there -- not scraped, gated, or sold back to you by platforms that don't know your street name.
- Two. Publishers earned their audience. They deserve infrastructure worthy of it. A local newspaper that spent forty years building community trust shouldn't be forced to choose between a generic AI assistant and a six-month engineering project. Mani gives publishers a locally grounded AI that feels like their own -- because it's trained on their content and powered by their community's data.
- Three. Proximity is the only algorithm that matters. Your feed should be ranked by how close something is to you, not by how angry it makes you. One rule: closest first. No engagement bait. No algorithmic manipulation. No content from three states away dressed up as local.
- Four. AI should know your block, not just the internet. General-purpose AI produces confident answers about local things it has never actually witnessed. Mani is grounded in real posts from real neighbors, real editorial content from real journalists, and real mapping data. It knows where locals actually eat, which mechanic people trust, and what's happening tonight -- because it reads what your neighbors and your local journalists actually wrote.
- Five. Local advertising should cost $10/week, not $5,000/month. A coffee shop shouldn't need a four-figure monthly ad budget to reach the people who walk past their door every day. Proximity should be cheap. On every platform that currently exists, it isn't. On Manifest it is.
- Six. The platform is free for residents. Period. No premium tier for seeing your own neighborhood. No paywall on posting. No "upgrade to message." Residents are neighbors, not revenue targets.
- Seven. This is data infrastructure, not social media. We are building the local data layer -- structured, real-time, location-tagged -- that powers feeds, AI, search, publisher products, and advertising. The posts are the product. The people are the source. The publishers are the distribution. The businesses are the customers.
The founder's relationship to this
Manifest doesn't have to be the biggest thing. It has to be genuinely useful to real people in real places. That's the only measure that matters at this stage and the only measure that will matter at every stage after it.
The proof of concept isn't the ARR number. It's three micro-moments:
- A local business owner says they got a customer they couldn't have reached before.
- A resident opens the app and says this knows my neighborhood.
- A publisher watches Mani answer a question in their coverage area and asks how soon they can launch.
Those micro-moments are not the consolation prize on the way to scale. They are what scale is made of. Build toward them. Measure against them. When the copy, the product, and the pitch are all aimed at producing those moments -- and only those moments -- this page is being used correctly.
How we work
- Ship something real every week. If it didn't ship, it doesn't count.
- Talk to the user. Read the email. Answer the email.
- Default to the boring, durable choice. Phoenix, Postgres, plain HTML where we can.
- Treat user attention as a finite resource. No engagement bait. No notification we wouldn't want as users. Every email has a working unsubscribe and we honor it.
- Write things down. This page exists for that reason.
- No hype, no decks-as-product, no roadmaps we can't keep.
Who we want to talk to
- Local publishers who want a real revenue line that isn't another ad network.
- Operators and engineers who've quietly thought about this problem for years.
- Investors who pattern-match on craft, not on adjectives.
- Anyone who wants to be part of the answer to "how did you spend the AI moment" -- and mean it.
Who we're probably not for
- If you need a polished growth chart before week two, we're not it.
- If you want to talk about valuation before you've used the product, we're not it.

The closer
Every city is drowning in information and starving for knowledge. Make it smarter by surfacing what its own residents and journalists already know. Make it faster by closing the gap between something happening and the right person hearing about it. Make it stronger by paying the people and the publications that carry its memory. The city already knows. Manifest is just teaching it to speak.
