Dupont Circle Residents Rally Against Proposed 14th Street High-Rise Development

By Metro News Network
Over 200 residents packed a community hearing at the Dupont Circle Citizens Association Tuesday evening to voice concerns about a proposed 12-story mixed-use development at 14th and P Streets NW. The project, backed by Meridian Development Group, would replace a block of two-story retail buildings with 340 residential units and ground-floor commercial space.Opponents argue the building's height violates the neighborhood's historic character, while supporters point to the city's severe housing shortage. ANC Commissioner David Park urged a compromise: "We can add density without losing what makes Dupont special."The Zoning Commission will review the proposal at its September session.
